We offer a lovely learning environment!
Our carefully planned curriculum includes learning activities in the areas of language arts, math, science, social studies, art, music, and physical education all geared to the level and interest of a young child.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register my child for a class at Crofton Day School?
We will email you an application form or you may download it from our website. Submit it along with the application fee by mailing it or by dropping it off at the school. You and your child can also come in to visit a class in session and pick up an application while you are here.
Why should my child attend preschool?
Early childhood education experts agree that children attending a high quality preschool enter kindergarten with better pre-reading skills, richer vocabularies and stronger basic math skills. In addition to academic skills preschool strengthens socialization skills - how to compromise, be respectful of others and problem solve. Preschool provides a place where your child can gain a sense of self, explore, play with peers and build confidence.
A landmark study of the benefits of preschool by the Carnegie Foundation concluded that children who began their education in early childhood got more out of school in every grade - and were more likely to graduate from high school and attend college. Children who participated in early education programs were also healthier and wealthier than their peers who did not!
What kind of experience will my child have at Crofton Day School?
Your child could not find a better experience than he or she will have at CDS. Your child will feel secure and cared about at CDS. Our teachers here have been nurturing children's growth since we started CDS in 1997. Each child is important to each teacher as an individual and each child is treated as a unique person. Parents are always welcome to bring up any concerns and to speak with or email the teachers at any time. Your child will only have the experience of being three or four once in their lives. He or she deserves a professional, safe and caring atmosphere in which to spend this special time.
What makes Crofton Day School special?
Crofton Day School has been approved by the Maryland State Department of Education to operate as a preschool. There are many child care centers which have preschool programs which are not approved by MSDE to be a preschool. Having this approval means our teachers all meet the educational standards of teachers with college degrees. It means we have a curriculum we use which has been approved by MSDE and our learning materials cover all our curriculum areas of language arts, math, science, social studies, art, music, and physical education. CDS meets the standards of the MSDE for preschools.
We also have two teachers in each class. Your child will have the attention of a fully qualified, experienced (our teachers have been here since we began in 1997) teacher. Our smaller class sizes allow us to keep our student- teacher ratio lower than is required by MSDE. We have helped hundreds of students learn to love going to school!
Is CDS a religious school?
No, CDS has a happy home within the Prince of Peace Church building next to Crofton Country Club on Crofton Parkway, but we are not affiliated with the church and are a non-sectarian preschool.
Can I attend class with my child?
CDS has an open door policy and parents are welcome at any time. During the first week of school parents can attend a class with their child to see for themselves what a day at school will be like and giving their child the comfort of having them there on their first day of preschool.
What do you require of children entering CDS?
For most of our students entering CDS will be the first time they attend a group activity without their family. We are prepared to help your child succeed at school by helping her/him learn our daily routines and showing him/her how to participate in our activities and interact with her/his classmates.
How do I compare CDS to other preschools?
Try to visit during a class if possible. Notice the interactions between the teachers and children. Are the students engaged in activities? Do they seem comfortable and happy? How big are the classes? Is the school MSDE approved as a preschool? How many qualified teachers are assigned to the class? What is the class size? Does the room seem big enough given the class size? Are there hidden costs beyond tuition such as materials or supplies fees for arts and crafts or required fundraising goals to meet? At CDS the tuition you pay covers materials and supplies and there are no fundraisers.
